Workshop on Autism at Samadhan – “Because awareness matters”

The puzzle pattern of this ribbon reflects the mystery and complexity of autism. The different colours and shapes represent the diversity of people and families living with this disorder. The brightness of this ribbon signals hope. Hope through research and increasing awareness in people.

Samadhan, working with children with Autism since last 3 decades has been undertaking many initiatives to spread awareness on Autism, as part of this, Ms. Babita Mourya, Admn. Assistant of Samadhan, reached out to more than 20 Mainstream Schools, in and around Dakshinpuri community to invite the teachers from these schools to participate in the workshop on “Autism awareness” for teachers at regular classroom setting at our Dakshinpuri Centre, on 29.04.2017.

16 mainstream school teachers from various schools of Dakshinpuri, 2 teachers and one survey worker from Samadhan participated in the workshop. Ms. Pratima Tiwary, Head of the Department, Aasman, Special Education Unit from St. Mary School, Dwarka was the resource person, who conducted the workshop. Ms. Sumathi Morgan, Executive Director welcomed the resource person and all the participants, following a great presentation on Autism by Ms. Pratima.

The presentation covered the following key points:

  • Identification
  • Information on - Assessment of the children with Autism
  • Class room strategies and techniques to be used for autistic children
  • CBSE guidelines on academic evaluation for children with Autism
  • Success stories of great personalities like - Bill Gates, Steve Job

After the presentation, there was an interesting interactive session with queries and questions raised by the participants which was very well replied through sharing appropriate & applicable solutions by Ms. Pratima. The participants gave their positive feedback.

The workshop was very much appreciated by all. On behalf of Samadhan, the Executive Director presented a certificate and a hamper of spices (made by the staff of our Spice Unit)
as a token of appreciation and gratitude to the resource person.
